Mining Industry Case Study Roof Bolter Operation

Rotator Cuff and Shoulder Injuries are common for Roof Bolters. It was noted that the bolter traditionally handles approximately 10 lbs of weight [ bolt + plate] with his arm fully extended. A study was undertaken to show forces on the shoulder with 10 lbs fully extended and 10 lbs lifted close to the body.
