The Computerized Exercise System (CES)

Hello Upen Deka,

Thank you for your Email message and interest in the Ariel Computerized
Exercise Systems (CES).  I am not certain of your requirements and requests.
As I have explained in the previous Email message.  We have two types of
Ariel CES machines:  Multi-Function and Arm-Leg.  The software capabilities
are exactly the same for both machines, however, each machine is designed
for specific tasks.

The Ariel Multi-Function machine is designed for "mulit-joint"
testing/training/rehabilitation. It is not designed to isolate a particular
joint.  This is a closed-kinetic-chain machine. The most common exercises
performed on this machine are bench press/pull, seated or inclined
press/pull, curl/triceps, and squats.  It can also be used for the back by
simulating a lift test.

The Ariel Arm-Leg machine is designed for "single-joint"
testing/training/rehabilitation.  It is mainly designed for isolating the
knee and elbow but can also be used for the back by simulating a rowing
motion.

Additional information can be found at the following internet address.

I have also attached a copy of the CES User Manual for your review.  It is
in a Microsoft Word format.

The Ariel CES machines cost $25,000.00 USD for the basic system.  This
includes the machine, computer, software and interface cables.  Other
available options include computer cart, Analog collection capabilities,
printers, larger monitors, CD-RW drives etc.  Shipping charges are
additional and will include the cost of crating the equipment for shipment.
Delivery times are approximately 30 to 60 days after receipt of full
payment.

Please review the information and feel free to contact us for any additional
information.

Sincerely,

John Probe

Dear Bente,
At Indiana State University in the Biomechanics Laboratory, I have
had the Ariel Computerized Exercise System (CES) for the past 5
years. The CES permits you to collect isokinetic & static strength
measures from 0 degrees/sec to upward of 300deg/sec, during a
concentric/eccentric phase of the movement. You can set the system to
regulate the angular velocity/speed of contraction or you can
regulate the movement by the quantity of force. It also has the
capability of providing sticking points during the movement in order
to further develop the muscles at particular parts of the ROM, you
can collect simultaneously EMG and other analog data using
preamplified  Motion Control electrodes. The  CES  has a multistage
unit which can test deadlifts, bench presses, and elbow/shoulder
strength, & squats. also, he has a specific back unit and other units
for knee extension. The computer system also has the APAS performance
analysis software so you can do many other applications, such as
video analysis if you have the avi video files or the unit can come
with the video capture options, as my unit does. I use it in a
undergraduate/graduate student environment and the machine is a
workhorse. It can serve as a training unit or an evaluation
instrument. I would strongly recommend the unit because of it
functionality and moderate cost, flexibility, reliability. we have
just completed a study using the system for back testing after
fatigue and we examined the spectral shift of the EMG after back
fatigue was induced.
Please contact me if you have any other questions, or check their web
page at  www.arielnet.com

Good Luck with your search and decision.
Sincerely,
Al Finch, Ph.D

ADI:  The Ariel Computerized Exercise System (CES) is capable of Isokinetic, Isotinic, Isometric and User-Defined exercises.  The Ariel CES is a passive system system based on a computer controlled hydraulic cylinder.  Our research has indicated that the Eccentric mode does not provide any significant benefits and increases the potential for injuring the subjects.  For this reason, the Ariel CES does not include Eccentric capabilites

> * Progressive controlled range of motion with real time Biofeedback.

ADI:  The Ariel CES can control the force, velocity and range of motion.  User selected real-time graphs are displayed on the computer monitor as the exercise is being performed.  All exercises can be stored and exported for "custom" analysis.

> * Concentric speed ranges from 0-500 degrees/sec, torque limits 0-50ft/lb

ADI:  The Ariel CES supports concentric speed from 0 to greater than 1000 degrees/second with torque limits from 0 to grater than 1000 ft/lb.

ADI:  The user can program single or multiple exercises using any of the supported modes.  Exercises can also be programmed on a floppy disk and performed by the user without even touching the computer.  This is accomplished by advancing through the programmed exercises by simply moving the bar on the machine.  You are also welcome to contact the following Ariel CES user.

This user has extensive experience and established protocols for use with the Ariel CES.  The Ariel CES machines are used daily in his physical therapy practice.

ADI:  Ariel Dynamics manufactures two types of CES machines.  The Ariel Multi-Function is a "multi-joint" closed kinetic chain testing machine.  The most popular exercises performed on this machine are: Seated/Inclined Press and Pull, Bench Press and Pull, Curl/Triceps Press and Pull and Squats.  Specific information can be found at the following internet address:

We also manufacture the Ariel Arm-Leg machine.  This is an open kinetic chain testing machine that is used to isolate specific joints (elbow, knee etc.)

ADI:  Please review the information and feel free to provide us with your exact requirements for the machine.  We would be happy to discuss any particular applications or how the Ariel CES can meet your needs.

Payments can be made by either of two methods:

 1.     Certified check drawn on a United States bank.  Payment should be sent to the address listed below.
