Hello Dr. Cairns,
Thank you for your message and your interest in the Ariel Performance
Analysis System (APAS).  You will need to send us two numbers by Email:
System Parameter and Site Code numbers.  These numbers are use to generate a
SITE KEY that will activate your software for the 30-day evaluation period.

You should download and install the APAS software on the desired computer.
The System parameter number can be accessed by opening the APAS-System
folder from the Windows desktop.  Then double-click on the APASCES icon to
display the System parameter number.

The Site Code number can be obtained by opening any of the APAS software
modules (Display for example).  You will see a windows stating how many days
are left on the trail license.  When you see this menu, you should press the
ENTER key to access the license information.  Then select View Site Code and
accept the license agreement.  The Site Code will be displayed in the menu
box.

When you Email these numbers to Ariel Dynamics, they are used to generate a
SITE KEY that will activate your software.  The SITE KEY will be returned by
Email and you can enter it immediately below the Site Code.

Additional information can be found in the Download Instructions on the
Ariel internet site.  The direct address is:

   /topics/Downloading/Default.htm

Please contact me for any additional information.

Sincerely,

John Probe

Hello Rizal,
Thank you for your message.  When you enter the SITE KEY provided by Ariel
Dynamics, that will activate the software license for unlimited use.  It is
perfectly normal for the Site Code information to change.  This has nothing
to do with your being able to operate the software.

When you open any of the APAS software modules (Display for example),
youwill see a brief message stating "Unlimited License".  If you press the
ENTER key when this message is displayed, you will access the license
information.  Once you have entered the SITE KEY, you do NOT need to press
the ENTER key anymore.

When you open the software module, the "Unlimited License" menu will display
briefly.  Just wait a few seconds and it will dissappear and the software
module will open.

Also note that the Analog module is an optional software module that was not
specified with the original order.  In order to perform a video analysis,
you should use the modules in the following order.

Digital Video capture software (this is provided with the DV frame
grabber hardware)
TRIM Module (used to "clip" the desired video for analysis)
DIGITIZE Module (used to digitize the data and calibration points)
TRANSFORM Module (used to convert that data to spatial coordinates)
DISPLAY and/or APASVIEW Module (used to display analysis results)

I hope this information is helpful.  Please contact me for any additional
questions.

Hello Rizal,

Thank you for your message.  It was no trouble to provide the APAS CD.  I
hope the installation occurred smoothly!  Based on the information you have
provided, a SITE KEY has been generated for the APAS computer system.

   Site Code:     D64F-847D-7FCA-D036-FB
   SITE KEY:   FF07 49A9 67C2 2BDD F360 DD32 CC

NOTE:  Please do not reformat the hard drive, upgrade the operating system
or change the directory structure of the APAS system files as this will
invalidate the software license.

Please keep us informed with your progress using the APAS.  We look forward
to working with you and would be happy to answer any questions.

Hello Kenneth L. Rodrigues,

Thank you for your interest in the Ariel Performance Analysis System
(APAS).  The APAS is a 3D video-based movement analysis system which
accurately quantifies function and provides objective data the professional
may use to justify or evaluate treatment.  Areas of successful application
for the APAS include human performance, injury and rehabilitation
assessment, quantification of loss for compensation claims, equipment and
product testing and development, determination of potential or actual risks
for products and activities in liability litigation, as well as applied
research in the areas of orthopedic medicine, therapeutics, and physical
training.

The APAS integrates state-of-the-art computer and video processing hardware
with specialized software modules that perform data collection, analysis,
and presentation.  Objective quantifiable documentation is provided for
both 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional analysis.  Specific points of interest
can be digitized with user intervention or automatically using contrasting
markers.  Stick figures are then generated and can be synchronized with
kinematics data.  Additionally, up to 32 channels of analog data (i.e.
force platform, EMG, goniometers etc.) can be synchronized with the
kinematics data.

The APAS product information can be found on the Ariel internet site
(/).  The direct address to several areas that might be of
interest are listed below.

> 2. How many computers can I installed the software on?

The APAS can be installed on as many computer as you like. Once the first "master" system is purchased, then additional licenses are $500 per computer within the same facility.

> 3. How about software upgrade? Any charge for that?
>
ADI: Ariel Dynamics Inc. provides free upgrades for the life of the equipment (as long as the hardware supports the software). Upgrade software is posted on the Ariel internet site and can be downloaded and installed at the customer's convenience.

> 4. Where can I get the calibration cube for gait, or how can I make it ?
>
ADI: You can purchase the calibration cube directly from us or you can also make your own. The idea behind the calibration cube is precisely known measurements that can be setup on a repeated basis. Calibration cubes can be made out of PVC pipe, galvanized pipe, aluminum tubing etc. Many users have also hung strings from the ceiling of the lab. Each string has "known" points that are measured relative to a single origin. When the calibration device is not required, the strings are simply retstrained off to the side by hooks on the wall. A typical calibration cube for gait analysis should be approximately 3m long x 1m wide x 2 meter high since the calibration device should encompass the area of activity to be analyzed.

> 5. Where can I get the calibration cube for hand/finger function analysis,
or
> how can I make it?
>
ADI: Refer to the information listed above. The same rules apply. This simply means that you would require a much smaller calibration cube. One option that has been used here is plastic building sets for children. This consists of varying lengths of hollow tubes approximately 1 cm in diameter. These tubes can be configured to different sizes and then measured for the calibration device.

> 6. What kind of markers (size/shape/color...) do you suggest for gait and
where
> to get it?
>
ADI: The standard markers that are sold as options with the APAS consist of Retro-reflective tape wrapped around a 0.75 inch diameter ball. We can special order markers of any size. Just let us know what size you require. We can also supply the tape if you wish to make your own. We have used markers from several mm in diameter up to several inches.

> 7. The same as 6, but for hand /finger function analysis?
>
ADI: Refer to answer #6 above.

> 8. Where to put the markers for hand function analysis ?
>
ADI: When using markers, they should be placed as close as possible to the joints to be analyzed. I am not aware of any industry standard placement for hand analysis. The location is decided upon by the researcher.

Hello Paul,

Thank you for your interest in the Ariel systems.  It is very easy to
purchase the software.  Just follow the steps listed below.

1.  You can download the software directly from the Ariel internet site
(/).  This software is valid for 14 days from installation
on your computer and allows you the opportunity to evaluate the software
prior to purchase.  Please refer to the DOWNLOADING INSTRUCTIONS on the web
site for additional information.

2.  A payment of $5,000.00 USD should be sent by wire transfer using the
information listed below:

*** All Banking Charges Are Customer's Responsibility

Note:  If you require an Invoice in order to make the payment, please
provide the following information:

Company/University Name:
Company/University Address:
Contact Person:
Phone Number:
Fax Number:
Email:
Web Site:

3.  Once the software is installed on your computer AND Ariel Dynamics Inc
has received payment in full, you need to provide two system numbers to us
for registration.
a.  The first number is the SYSTEM PARAMETER NUMBER and can be obtained by
selecting the APASCES icon from the APAS_System folder.
b.  The second number is the Site Code.  This number can be obtained by
double-clicking on any of the Ariel software modules.  Before the program
opens, you will be presented with a small menu that states how many days
are left in the trial period.  Press the ENTER key to view the License
Configuration menu.  Select the Display Site Code button and Accept The
License Agreement.  At the following menu, you will see the Site Code.

Copy these two numbers and send them to ARIEL1@ix.netcom.com in an Email
message.

4.  We will use these two numbers to generate a SITE KEY number.  The SITE
KEY will be returned to you in an Email message.  You should enter the SITE
KEY in the field immediately below the SITE CODE number.  This will
activate your software for unlimited use.

NOTE:  Once the "master" system is purchased for $5,000 USD, additional
copies of the license can be obtained for $500 USD per computer.  This is
very useful in the University environment because it allows additional APAS
workstations for minimum cost.  For example, if you wanted the APAS sofware
on 5 computers, the price would be $7,000.00 USD ($5000 + (4 * $500)).

Please feel free to contact me for any additional information.

Sincerely,

John Probe

There are two codes that we will require to generate the SiteKey for your
computer.  The first is the system parameter code.  This can be obtained by
selecting the APASCES icon located in the APAS system folder.  The second
is the Site Code.  This number is obtained by opening any of the Ariel
software modules, then press the ENTER key when the license menu is
displayed.  Accpet the license agreement and then select Display Site Code.

NOTE:  We cannot generate the Site Key until full payment is received at
Ariel Dynamics.

Yes, the price for the APAS workstation license is $500 for existing Ariel
customers that have purchased the Pnetium computer system.

Anytime you wish to send us the PO would be fine.  When the software is
downloaded from the internet, you can install it on your system and work
with it for 30 days.  Once Ariel Dynamics receives full payment ($500 per
software license), you can send us the required codes and we will return a
Site Key for your computer(s).

Payment can be sent by wire transfer using the information listed below:

Hello Mr. Balmer,

Thank you for your message.  Please provide a detailed explaination as to
why you are "unable to proceed" with operating the APAS software.  This may
help us determine any problems and assist you in operating the APAS system.

Is the problem with the software installation?  Or, in operating the software?
What operating system are you using (Win95/98 WinNT)?

Hello John,

The easiest method to install the APAS on another computer is as follows:

1.  Insert the APAS CD in the desired computer.
2.  Open the APAS_WIN folder
3.  Run the SETUP.EXE file to install the software.

Once the software is installed, you will see the APAS SYSTEM folder that
contains all the APAS icons.

1.  Select the APASCES icon and make note of the System parameter number
2.  Open any other APAS module and press the ENTER key to access the
license and display the Site Code.
3.  Send us the System Parameter and Site Code numbers by Email so we can
generate a SITE KEY for the computer.  These numbers will be different for
each computer even though you use the same CD to install the software.
4.  We will provde the Site Key information by return Email.

I hope this information is helpful.

Hello Tim,

Thank you for your message.  While certain items are visible in the
software downloaded from the internet, they are not functional unless the
particular option has been purchased from Ariel Dynamics.

In your case, as soon as the payment of $6500 is received, we will issue
you a Site Key that will activate the 2D/3D software as well as the Analog
capabilities for force plate and EMG.

I hope this answers your questions.

Sincerely,

John Probe

Hello Nancy,

Thank you for your message.  I am glad that you received your system and it
seems to be working.  I will provide answers below each of your questions.

There was no Sound Card included in your system.  The APAS software does
not require the use of the audio cables.  Therefore, you can simply leave
them not connected.

>2.  I attempted to use the APAS software, and it said I needed a site key.

The SITE KEY information has already been entered for your system.  When
you open any of the APAS modules in the APAS SYSTEM folder, you should see
a menu that states "UNLIMITED LICENSE" but if you press the ENTER key
during this menu, there will be an option to enter a SITE KEY.  As long as
your system states UNLIMITED license, there is no need to press the ENTER
key.  Just wait a few seconds and the system will proceed into the selected
software module.

The same situation applies for the APAS-DOS programs.  These programs are
included in the APAS DOS folder.

The software license will remain valid as long as the directory structure
of the APAS files are not changed and the hard disk drive is not formatted.

I hope this answers your questions.  Please feel free to contact me for any
additional information.

Sincerely,

John Probe

I am getting a pop-up window that tells me I have "30 days left out of 30" left on my trial but it asks me for a site key to match the this site code: DFC8 3245 7FB8 2C7C 7C

then, going to APAS CES I assume this is the hardware/system code?

Do you now provide the required site key?

Thanks

Hello Marie,

Thank you for your interest in the Ariel Performance Analysis System
(APAS99).  Once you have downloaded the software from the net, and you are
ready to use it, you should install it on your computer.

1.  Simply execute the downloaded APASWIN file to expand the system files
to a temporary directory

2.  Run the SETUP.EXE file from the temporary directory.  NOTE:  The
software is valid for a period of 30 days from installation.

3.  Refer to the following internet address for configuring the APAS with NT.

4.  Reboot the computer and open the APAS SYSTEM folder.  You will see the
individual APAS software module icons.  A typical analysis (after filming)
proceeds using the following programs:

CAPTURE Captures files from video tape. Requires MJPEG frame grabber
TRIM Used to remove "video clip" from captured file
DIGITIZE Digitize up to 4 files simultaneously
TRANSFORM Transforms individual views to 3D image space
FILTER Removes "random digitizing" error
DISPLAY Displays results of analysis

Each software module has associated help screens that will explain the
various options.  Additionally, there are on-line manuals and tutorials on
the Ariel internet site.

I hope this information is helpful. Please contact me for any additional
questions.

Sincerely,

John Probe

Hello Antonio Moreira,

In order to generate the requested Site Key, you will need to provide Ariel Dynamics with two numbers generated by your computer system. You will first need to download and install the APAS software to the desired computer. Once the APAS software is installed, you will be able to view the System Parameter and Site Code numbers.

The system parameter number is viewed by opening the APAS-System folder and double-clicking on the APASCES icon.

The Site Code number is obtained by opening any of the Ariel software modules (Display for example). Then press the ENTER key to access the license information. Select the DISPLAY SITE CODE button and accept the license agreement to view the Site Code.

Please Email these two numbers to Ariel Dynamics Inc. (ARIEL1@ix.netcom.com) so we can generate the Site Key. The Site Key will then be returned by Email.

Please contact us for any additional information.

Sincerely,

John Probe

Hello Eric Cheng,

I will provide answers below each of your questions.

ADI: Have you purchased the software license for the APAS? Or have you obtained the SITE KEY for the 30-Day trial? If not, you will not be able to perform analysis using the APAS.

If you have obtained either the 30-Day Site Key or purchased the APAS software license then follow these steps. When you open the AVI file in the TRIM module, you must specify the folloiwng points: Start of trimming, End of trimming and the Synchronizing point. After these points have been specified, you should select the "SAVE TRIMMING" option. Then you should be able to open the "new" file in other modules.

>2. When I open the Capture, It told me " Failure to open Comm Connection". After I press "Enter", It told me "Problem connecting to VCR". I am sure that I have opened the JVC-9800 Digital Video power and it works very well. I can see the image on the computer when I use the Ulead VideoStudio 4.0.
>
ADI: This is correct! This means that the computer is not connected to the Panasonic computer controlled VCR. This is not a problem. The software is just notifying the user that the hardware is not connected.

If you are using the JVC-9800 camera, then you should be using an IEEE 1394 FireWire capture card and program. You should not use the Capture program. The Capture program is designed to work with Analog frame grabbers. The JVC 9800 is a Digital camera so you should use a Digital frame grabber.

>3. where can I transfer the *.avi to *.cf? what is the next step shoud I do defore Digitizing Module after I finished trimming the Video Sequences. I can't find the answer in the web site.
>
ADI: The logical order of the APAS modules is as follows:

Digital Video Capture Program (using FireWire capture card and software)
Trim Module (used to "clip" desired video for analysis)
Digitize Module (used to digitize individual camera views)
Transform Module (used to transform individual views into 2D or 3D image)
Filter Module (used to remove random digitizing errors)
Display Module (used to present the results of the analysis)

The Digital Video Capture program is usually supplied with the DV frame grabbing hardware and should include an operating manual. All other modules are written by Ariel programmers. Each module has a pull-down help screen that provides step-by-step instructions for performing the required tasks. For a condensed version of the steps required, you can refer to the "Quick Reference" section of each module.

I hope this answers your questions. Please contact us for any additional information.

Hello Shawn,
Thank you for your message.  Most likely, you do not require a new Site Key
for the APAS software.  When you open any of the APAS programs, you should
briefly see a menu that states "Unlimited License" before the program opens.
If you see this message, you do not require a new Site Key.  If you do not
see this message, please let us know.

Once you enter the Site Key, it is perfectly normal for the Site Code number
to change.  This does not indicate any problem.

It would also help if you could list the step-by-step procedures that you
are performing and what problems you are experiencing.

I look forward to your reply!

Sincerely,

John Probe
