CES DATABASE10.1 INTRODUCTIONCES_DB is a specialized database program with report generation capabilities. The program was created with the goal of giving the CES user a database for making customized reports.CES_DB gives the user a unique flexibility in customizing and formatting the appearance of a report. The program also has the capability to export to test and Lotus spreadsheet files. Support for all CES printers is also provided. Like the CES, the report generator is not difficult to use, nor is any experience or prior knowledge of computers or data processing necessary in order to operate it. Creating reports of personalized training of specified rehabilitation programs is achieved by complying with simple directions provided by the menu strip and the memo help line that appears below each menu option on the monitor. These memos help to explain to the user the purpose each menu selection serves. Both a keyboard or a mouse can be used to operate the CES_DB. To generate a report, the CES_DB program imports the exercise results from the user file called filename.WK1. The filename.WK1 is being formed during the "Program" phase of utilizing the CES. The programmer must specify "YES" for the "WKS" option during the personal information entry. After that phase, the program automatically creates the .WK1 file and saves the exercise parameters, the diagnostics and the exercise/testing results.
10.1.1 Starting the CES_DB ProgramIn order to enter the CES_DB, select "Database" in the main CES menu. A short display will appear on the screen that shows the user that they are entering the CES_DB. The program will then tell the user what Drive and File the current directory has been changed to.The program will also tell the user that "upon exiting report generation, current directory will automatically be changed back to the original location". Simply click "OK" with the mouse to continue. The program will give the user the option to change the directory and drive later on in the program. For more information about changing the directory and drive, check Chapter 2.3.
10.1.2 User AdaptiveCES_DB allows users to design each report to their specifications, whether it be written data, color graphs, or exporting information to lotus spreadsheets or text files.
10.1.3 User Friendly ApplicationUse of the CES_DB is directed through a system of menus and guides that will provide a clear set of options at every point in the operation of the program.
10.1.4 Main MenuThe Main menu provides the user with a set of options of the kind of reports he can generate or report from. The selections are:
10.2 RG (THE REPORT GENERATOR)The report generator option is used for generating a report or graph from a CES user(s) results file (userfile.wk1). In order to use the report generator, it must be selected in the main menu. Another menu will appear which provides the user the followingOptions:
10.2.1 Selecting a FileBy selecting "File", the user can Select a CES WKS file for a report. Use the mouse to point the cursor to a .WK1 user file. Select the file by clicking the mouse "ENTER" key. Once a .WK1 file has been selected, the input will initialize and the program will then give the user a menu for selecting or unselecting common mode variable.Common Mode Variables are exercise parameter variables that must be matched by each exercise to be included in the report. The program will list all the choices. Selected variables will appear in blue letters with white background. Unselected variables will appear in white letters with blue background. In order to move down or up on the menu, drag the mouse in the desired direction on the right side of the screen. Selecting or unselecting the variables is done by clicking the mouse on whichever variable the user points out. Each and every parameter used in the CES program mode to construct and customize an exercise routine is a common mode variable. The process of selecting any number of these parameters from the Common Mode Variable list, allows the CES_DB program to sort out from a large pool of exercises. Only those exercises which meet specific criteria are selected. Once the user has selected their common mode variables, it is necessary to select "exit menu" to proceed to the next step of report generation. The program will instruct the user How Many Unique Common Modes were found and to "use the next menu to select the mode value which all reported or graphed exercises must have in common". Select OK.
10.2.2 DirectoryIn order to change the directory, select "directory" in the Report Generator's Menu. Then type in the New Drive and Directory Name, and any Files Already Saved under that directory will be displayed. Once that has been taken care of, the user only needs to follow steps 2.4-2.7 in order to generate a report. If the user has chosen a directory that has no previously saved files, they must return to a directory that does. For time considerations, it is advisable to users that they check the directory first to locate their file because if their file is not located in "file" (Section 2.2) they will have to go through several steps before they can return to the main menu and select "RG" and "Directory".
10.2.3 The Unique Common Mode MenuThis menu will show Which Unique Common Mode is being viewed. A menu options strip on top of the screen will read:10.2.3.1 Next"Next" enables the user to advance and view the next unique common mode.
10.2.3.2 First"First" enables the user to select and view the first unique common mode.
10.2.3.3 Last"Last" enables the user to select and view the last unique common mode.
10.2.3.4 SelectChoosing this option Selects the unique common mode currently shown on the screen.
10.2.3.5 AbortSelecting "Abort" simply allows the user to exit this menu and the report generator module altogether and returns the user back to the CES_DB main menu.
10.2.3.6 ExitSelecting "Exit" permits the user to proceed to the next step in report generation. However, the user cannot choose the exit option unless a unique common mode has been selected first.The screen will then tell the user How Many Exercises were found that matched the unique common mode. Select OK with the mouse to move to the next screen.
10.2.4 The Current Common Mode Variable MenuThe next step in the report generation is the Current Common Mode Variable menu. The menu at the top of the screen will offer the user seven choices:
10.2.4.1 SelectChoosing "Select" permits the user to select or unselect an exercise currently displayed for a report.
10.2.4.2 Next"Next" enables the user to view the next exercise.
10.2.4.3 Previous"Previous" enables the user to view the previous exercise.
10.2.4.4 First"First" enables the user to vies the first exercise.
10.2.4.5 Last"Last" enables the user to view the last exercise.
10.2.4.6 S-AllThis option permits the user to Select-All the exercises.
10.2.4.7 U-AllThis option permits the user to Unselect-All the exercises.10.2.4.8 AbortSelecting "Abort" simply allows the user to exit this menu and the report generator module altogether and returns the user to the CES_DB main menu.
10.2.4.9 ExitAs in the unique common mode menu, the user cannot exit unless an exercise variable(s) have been selected. Once an exercise or several exercise variables have been selected, the "Exit" selection will lead the user to the next step. The program will then tell the user how many exercises have been selected for report generation. The program will also ask the user to Confirm Exit. Selecting "Yes" will take the user to the next step in report generation. Choosing "No" permits the user to go back and select or unselect more exercises.
10.2.5 Side ComparisonUpon exiting the Current Common Mode Variable Menu, the program will then ask the user whether they want a Side Comparison. There will be three options to choose from. They are:10.2.5.1 Right/Left ComparisonThis option provides a ration value in the report for the relationship between the right and left limb. That ration value is expressed as a percent of the right limb performance value divided by the left limb performance value.
10.2.5.2 Left/Right ComparisonThis option provides a ration value in the report for the relationship between the left and right limb. That ration value is expressed as a percent of the left limb performance value divided by the right limb performance value.
10.2.5.3 No (Unilateral)This option indicates that there is no comparison necessary or possible between the right and left limbs.
10.2.6 Common Mode Variable Output DisplayAfter exiting the side comparison menu, the user will then proceed to the next step in the report generation program: the Common Mode Variable Output Display. Although the user has chosen both unique and current common mode variables for report generation, this menu will allow the user to select which common variables of selected exercises they wish to display (to include in the printed out report).The common mode variable the user selects will be shown on an output display along with a graph or a table report. Just as in the Unique Common Mode Variable Output Display, selected variables will appear in blue letters with a white background and unselected variables will appear in white letters with a blue background. The variable the cursor is located on will appear in white letters with a black background. After the user has selected or unselected the common mode variables, simply exit the menu. The Information Screen will indicate at this point how many Right/Left or Left/Right exercise pairs satisfied that side comparison common mode. Click "OK" with the mouse and this will then complete the report generation phase of the program.
10.3 SCRIPTThe Script function is designed so that the user can save the entire process of selecting the variables for the final report. Once a selection procedure has been established and saved as a Script File (filename.scs) the user can call upon this Script file to automatically perform the selection process on other userfiles.The Script Menu offers the user to first select the directory and userfile for the report. Then, the user has to select the Script file. As in RG (Chapter 2), there will be a unique common mode variable menu and a current common mode variable menu. Simply follow the same steps for report generation as shown in Chapter 2, sections 2.1 - 2.5.
10.4 SELECTING AND CREATING A TEMPLATEThis module gives the user the capacity to create a new template or a list of exercise results variables for report generation. Using the template also allows the individual to develop a library of customized reports. Each template has a unique format of presenting specific data and results for specific purposes.In order to use the Template option, the user must select Template in the CES_DB main menu. By choosing the template option, the program will take you to a new Template menu consisting of the choices:
10.4.1 Creating a New TemplateChoosing "Create" in the template menu allows the user to create a new template. Once "Create" has been selected, a New Template Name must be typed in on the keyboard. Once that has been done, the program will provide Another Menu with the following options:
